Devarim/Deuteronomy 11:26-12:10
Chapter 11
26) Look, today I am giving you a choice between a blessing and a curse.
27) The blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God that I am giving you today.
28) And the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn away from the path I’m giving you today to follow other gods that you haven’t known.
29) When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are about to possess, you shall pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
30) Aren’t they on the other side of the Jordan, toward the west, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the oak trees of Moreh?
31) For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you, and you will possess it and live there.
32) And you must be careful to follow all the laws and commands I’m giving you today.
Chapter 12
1) These are the laws and commands you must follow in the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you to possess, for as long as you live on the earth.
2) You must completely destroy all the places where the nations you are driving out worshiped their gods, on the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree.
3) You must tear down their altars, smash their pillars, burn their sacred trees with fire, cut down the carved images of their gods, and wipe out their names from that place.
4) You must not do this to the Lord your God.
5) But you shall seek the place the Lord your God will choose from all your tribes to put His name there, to His dwelling place, and that is where you shall go.
6) There you will bring your burnt offerings, sacrifices, tithes, special offerings, vows, freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and flock.
7) There you will eat in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice in everything you have worked for, you and your families, because the Lord your God has blessed you.
8) You must not do what we’re doing here today, each person doing whatever seems right in their own eyes.
9) For you have not yet arrived at the place of rest and the inheritance that the Lord your God is giving you.
10) But when you cross the Jordan and settle in the land the Lord your God is giving you, and He gives you rest from all your enemies around you, so that you can live in safety.
